ITANAGAR, Mar 10:
While attending a workshop on State Level Sensitization Program on Child Rights, Parliamentary Secretary (PS) Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, Laisam Simai stressed on educating the young generation especially school going children about social evils existing in society in schools and at home.
He said disseminating correct information about their rights and educating them on how to prevent or tackle sexual exploitation will help in reducing crimes against women and children in society to a great extent.
Educational institutions, debate, public awareness and parents role is also vital to minimize such acts, he emphasized.
Referring to recent rape cases of minors at Tezu, Yingkiong and Daporijo, Simai exhorted upon the need for strict laws against perpetrators of such crimes and called for change in mindset towards women.
He later also asked the participating children in the sensitization programme not to keep knowledge to themselves but to disseminate to elders as well as juniors. “Your self consciousness and determination are enough to eliminate such crimes from society,” Simani advised the students.
Programme resource person, CWC chairperson, Kani Nada Maling suggested for giving independent power to state Child Rights Commission, which is currently functioning under the Arunachal Pradesh Women Commission (APWC) for effectively implementing the policies under child protection laws.
Divulging that APWC has placed 18 points regarding protection of child rights to the state government for pre-budget discussion, she informed top priority was given to allocation a fund for independent Child Right Commission in the state.
A total thirty CPU members from six Lower Subansiri clusters and 10 members from Capital CWC participated in the daylong program.
During the program awareness session on child rights & abuse and on social issues like early marriage and child labour were discussed which was followed by interaction session between trainees and CPU members.
