ITANAGAR, Dec 1: World AIDS Day was observed today across the state of Arunachal Pradesh with the theme "Right to Health. My Health. My Right".

In the state capital the day was organised by APSACS in collaboration with CSC VIHAAN and ArNP+ (Arunachal network of positive people) community people at Chimpu Itanagar. To observe the day, a two day sports event was conducted at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu, Itanagar from November 30 last in which about 300 athletes took part.

Special Secretary (H&FW) cum Mission Director (NHM) Dr. Tapasya Ragav, who attended the programme as the Chief Guest administered  pledge to extend support voluntarily in the fight against HIV/AIDS, work dedicatedly for the reduction of stigma and discrimination attached to HIV/AIDS and help in creating an enabling environment for the People Living with HIV/AIDS.

She stressed on the need to create a chain of information among the young people in order to prevent and control HIV/AIDS in the state. ‘The knowledge gained should not be just confined to oneself. It should be shared with friends, family members and every near and dear ones so that we remain safe from the disease,’ she added.

Since Sangay Lhaden Sports academy has a representative from all the districts of the state, the students from the Academy has important roles to play in disseminating the HIV/AIDS awareness messages to the people across the state specially when they go back to their respective districts, she added.

Director of Health Services, Dr. M Lego, in his speech asked the students to be vigilant to remain safe from HIV/AIDS. This is the right age, students should know about preventive aspect of HIV as this disease is easily preventable but not curable, he added.

Dr. Riken Rina, Project Director APSACS, Principal of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Tabia Chobin, Astt. Director (TI) Dr. Marto Ette among others spoke on the occasion.

AT  PASIGHAT:  To fight against the deadly disease HIV/AIDS, the World AIDS Day was observed at the Bakin Pertin General Hospital here today.

To mark the event, staffers of AIDS department, health assistants, GNM and ANM trainees of the hospital took out a rally and moved around the township with slogans and banners ‘My Health My Right’ etc.

Speaking at the formal flag-off, Medical Superintendent Dr. YR Darang advised the participants to renew the commitment to fight against AIDS. She further said that prevention and compassion are the most reliable ways to deal with this dreaded disease, taking care of the people who are afflicted with the deadly HIV. Seeking public support, Darang said the infected patients also have the right to live with dignity and we must cooperate and help them. Medical fraternity is constantly striving and taking initiatives on AIDS awareness to reach both in urban and rural areas, she added.
