ITANAGAR, Feb 17:

Hundreds of volunteers under the banner of Youth Mission for Clean River- Arunachal Pradesh (YMFCR), as a part of its effort to beautify rivers around the capital complex took its first step by carrying out a mass cleanliness drive at the river banks and tributaries of Senki River from Chandanagar Bridge up to ITBP camp, Itanagar today.

Divided into two groups, the volunteers comprised of concerned residents, volunteers joined hands together to clean the ever accumulating raw sewerage from 7 am onwards up to 1 pm in the afternoon. The collected garbage was later disposed off with the help of Itanagar Municipal Council garbage trucks.

“Clean River Mission”, a first of its kind campaign to save rivers is an effort initiated by YMFCR-AP which aims at not only cleaning, but to generate awareness among the masses about importance of saving rivers, clean waterways and check climate change locally.

Meanwhile interacting with reporters, Chairman, SD Loda while terming the drive a success however was saddened over non participation of local denizens living nearby the river banks and in the localities despite prior appeals and requests.

Informing that the effort is self-initiated, he added that it would be good if support is extended from the State Government’s side in their endeavour.
