ITANAGAR, Jan 27:

About hundreds of veterinary graduates on Saturday boycotted the veterinary officer (VOs) examination that was scheduled to start today, while demanding the government to increase the current advertised 21 VOs post to minimum 70 posts including enhancement of age relaxation, creation of 158 numbers of VOs post in a phase wise manner and others.

In a press conference, president, Koj Morchi said that the government is least bothered about the future of unemployed veterinary doctors in the state and meting injustice towards veterinary graduates by not creating VOs posts despite the fact that the state is facing acute shortage of VOs in many veterinaries across the state.

Informing that in five or three years time vacancy has been rare, Morchi said that without job opportunities, many of the flustered graduates with no option left  are either applying for contractual jobs or are engaged in petty jobs for survival.

Citing available records,  Morchi disclosed that not a single VOs post has been created since 1986 and rather all recruitments of veterinary officers were being made against promotional and retirement vacancies, including vacancies due to death.

Terming the recent advertisement of 21 posts as a “mockery” and not sufficient enough for hundreds of unemployed veterinary doctors out there, Morchi said that coming out with such number of posts  is like rubbing salt on the wounds of  aspirants, who are on the verge of exceeding their age limit to sit in the next examination.

Disclosing that it had already submitted a memorandum for creation of 152 VOs posts to AR & Veterinary Minster, he called for immediate clearance of the said file which is gathering dust at the table of the Minister.

Referring to 12th live stock census of Arunachal including recommendation of Veterinary Council of India (VCI), VP, Taba Naga informed that there are 122 numbers of VOs who are working in different parts of the state, which he claimed are insufficient and contradict the recommendations of VCI that at least there should be one VO for every 5000 animals.

Divulging that the state needs 158 additional VOs in addition to current 122 VOs to look after the livestock population of the state, Naga urged the government to relax the upper age limit to 40 years with ST age relaxation in line with policies adopted by other states for selection criteria of VOs.

Further affirming that it will stand firm on their demands and won’t sit for the examination even if department re-advertised it till remedial measures is initiated, the association also accused the government of step motherly treatment towards the (AH and V) department by overlooking its requirements in comparison to working Engineering department.

The association alleged “while there are more than 20 CEs (Chief engineers), the animal husbandry and veterinary has only one director which is looking after all works”.
