Itanagar, Dec 16: The Indian Army on Thursday celebrated the 50th year of India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war as "Swarnim Vijay Diwas" at the Aalo Military Station in Arunachal Pradesh's West Siang district along with the civilian population and family members of 'Kriti Chakra' Naik late Tape Yajo, official sources said here.
The Deputy Commander, 5 Infantry Brigade, Col Navneet Bakshi along with senior citizen and former Arunachal Pradesh minister Doi Ado laid the wreaths and paid tributes to the valiant soldiers who made the supreme sacrifices to win the war for India. A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
On the occasion, the Army auditorium at Aalo and the approach road from Trans-Arunachal Highway to the residence of late Tape Yajo have been named after him as "Tape Yajo Auditorium" and "Tape Yajo Road" in fond memory of the illustrious Army man who rendered glorious years of service to the Indian Army.
Naik Tape Yajo, hailing from Karo village under remote Monigong circle of Shi-Yomi district had sacrificed his life for the nation in a gun battle with the terrorists on 22nd September 2008.
Though he was injured in the terrorist attack In Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir, he shot down three militants before breathing his last.
He served the Indian Army with utmost dedication for more than 12 years to be decorated with 50th years of Independence Anniversary Army Medal, Videsh Seva Medal with Clasp Bhutan, Special Service Medal with Clasp Suraksha, OP Rashak Medal, High Altitude Medal, 9 years long service Medal, OP Parakram Medal and lastly decorated with Kriti Chakra, a rear feat for an Army man in such short service life, sources said.
