ITANAGAR, Jun 11: Joining the nationwide protests called by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) against fuel inflation, members of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today took to the streets across the state with placards and anti-government slogans.
Speaking to the media, APCC General Secretary Toko Mina slammed the BJP government at the Centre for the steep rise in fuel prices amid the Covid crisis and termed it as “conspiracy to loot the common people.” When the whole nation and its citizens are suffering from the pandemic, the BJP government keeps on raising the fuel prices that has led to the current economic crisis, she said. “If the BJP is questioned for such price hikes, they transfer the blame on international crude oil prices which is 71 dollars per barrel. Interestingly, when the Congress was in power, even if the cost of international crude oil was 113 dollars per barrel in 2011, petrol price was only Rs 68. But under BJP’s regime when the cost of crude oil is low, the price is above Rs 100 per liter,” Mina gave the details. The APCC GS also alleged that hike in fuel price is an attempt to collect money by imposing taxes because BJP has used all the funds of the exchequer in the recently held assembly and panchayat elections in different states. The government should stop imposing excise duties on petrol and diesel, she said, while demanding a complete rollback of the fuel price hike.

Meanwhile, the District Congress Committee, East Siang along with the Block Congress Committees of Mebo and Ruksin staged protests at various locations of the district.
While DCC President Oni Tamuk led the protest in Pasighat in front of M/s Mamang Borang Service Station along with President, 38th Block Congress Committee Odang Moyong and others, the protest in Mebo was led by Secretary Karo Moyong and Natung Tayeng and in Ruksin by Aarong Perme. Mass gatherings were avoided as not more than 10 members were allowed to assemble.
DCC President Tamuk cited the exponential and unprecedented rise in petrol and diesel prices as the cause of inflation of basic commodities.
