It is shocking, Katem was a nice boy: mother

PASIGHAT, Feb 23:

In the wake of the killing of one Katem Dai, a fourth semester B.Tech student of Scholars Institute of Technology, Gorchuk Guwahati, allegedly by his classmate one Rajen Tachang Tara on the intervening night of Statehood celebration at the college premises, there is much public uproar and a growing demand for stringent punishment to the guilty.

The mortal remains of late Katem was brought to his native Boying in Pasighat on Wednesday morning from Guwahati and laid to rest.

Meanwhile, appreciating the show of solidarity, the family of the deceased and the Kibo Erang Kebang (KEK) comprising of five clans have appealed all section of society to refrain from giving the incident a communal colour.

At the same time, seeking justice for late Katem, they urged the concern authorities in Assam not to let the case be transferred to Arunachal as the place of occurrence is at Guwahati and probe to be carried out there.

Interacting with media persons on Wednesday, mother of the deceased broke down terming her son’s death ‘shocking’. ‘My son as a very good boy who never indulged in undesirable things,’ she said.

However, another relative disclosed that there were earlier attempts on the deceased by the accused while stating that it was an intentional killing. ‘Katem had avoided the scuffle two times earlier before he was killed in the 3rd attempt by Rajen, which shows the intentional killing,’ said the woman relative.

Meanwhile, Bogong Banggo Kebang (BBK) here have submitted a petition for DC and SP Kamrup, Assam through DC, Pasighat today seeking not to give any bail to accused Rajen Tachang Tara till the completion of the investigation. They have also demanded for conducting a free and fair investigation to unearth the events leading up to the incident.

While showing solidarity with the departed soul, the Adi Mising Coordination Committee, Guwahati led by its President, Tushar Ngatey and Gen Secy Kenzing Yosung organized a candle light march on Tuesday evening at Guwahati. And as intimated, the All Bogong Students’ Union and Adiland and Upright Peoples’ Organization here are also going to organize a candlelight march onFebruary 24 next to pay homage and solidarity to the departed soul.
