DAPORIJO, Feb 15: Scientific advisory committee (SAC) meeting was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Upper Subansiri with all the head of departments and progressive farmers on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Director Agriculture and Deputy Commissioner Upper Subansiri, Danish Ashraf as chief guest to discuss the Action Plan of SMSs of KVK for year 2018-19 and review the progress of mandate activities undertaken.

Ashraf praised KVK Upper Subansiri for its service to the farmers of the district and advised to coordinate with District administration for availing and implementation of various schemes. He firmly assured that District administration has enough resources and funds to assist the Agri and allied department.

Taking serious note of the current status of Mid-day Meal in schools and food in Anganwadi and Hospitals, he asked the KVK and progressive farmers to come up with viable model of vegetable farming to tie up with these institutions and supply of vegetables and fruits round the year to ensure nutritious meals in schools and hospitals.

He asked the concerned departments to take up initiative on pine nut and walnut plantation, a directive of the Governor of the state in the district. Also, urged the KVK to analyse soil status for identifying suitability of such plantations in the district.

SMS Arvind Pratap pointed out the hardship faced by the KVK staffers in procuring quality seeds, fingerlings, animal stocks and other inputs essential for activities of KVK due to connectivity and poor courier services in the district and sought administration’s assistance.

The SMSs of KVK presented the status of activities completed and undergoing and proposed annual action plan for the year 2018-19 in the district and apprised the DC of the shortcomings. On the occasion the KVK also released its Annual newsletter and four leaflets. Various schemes, along with ideas for goodwill of farmers, mid-day meals etc. were discussed during the meeting.
