ITANAGAR, Dec 14: Taking strong exception to the repeated violation of status quo along the foothill areas of the Arunachal-Assam interstate boundary, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union today asked the State Government to revamp the almost defunct Border Affairs Department.

It has been witnessed that since its creation, Border Affairs department has been one of the most neglected departments with no proper office, staffers and powers, the union said.

In an emergency sitting in the wake of the recent demolition of under-construction Tourist Resort at Dollungmukh, the union also discussed repeated boundary problems created by Assam at other areas including Kangku, Rusa, Taraso etc. The members also expressed resentment at the lack of a strong response as well as counter measure by the Arunachal government in the wake of the incident.

Making its stand clear, the Union has sought immediate publication as well as implementation of recommendations given by the 3 member Local Boundary Commission constituted by the Supreme Court of India. The LBC headed by Justice (Rtd.) Tarun Chatterjee had physically visited and verified all the major areas of dispute along the inter-state boundary.

Immediate shifting of Dollungmukh firing range by the Indian Air force to another place far from human settlement. Stringent action against all the officials involved in carrying out illegal eviction drive in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

Further observing that an administrative circle under Arunachal Pradesh has been illegally included under a Forest Division of Assam, AAPSU has also called for immediate bifurcation of Dollungmukh area from Dullung Forest Division under Assam.

Meanwhile, the union also refuted the Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) statement citing that it is trying to politicize the sensitive inter-state boundary issue without taking into consideration the future impact of their words.
