ITANAGAR, Feb 16:Coordination cum review meeting on ongoing research scheme entitled “Linguistic Survey of Arunachal Pradesh” undertaken by Philology Section, Directorate of Research was held today. Minister for Research Department, Dr Mohesh Chai and Secretary Research Dani Salu also attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Chai emphasized to undertake field research in most sincere manner and to identify the speech communities in actual sense within Arunachal Pradesh. Underscoring the UNESCO report on endangered languages spoken by people of Arunachal Pradesh, Chai suggested to bring out authentic picture on the level of endangerment.
He also emphasised to define the criteria, methodology and other related concepts for accomplishing the research project.
Secretary Research, Dani Salu also suggested the field research officers to do linguistic survey using proper research methodology. ‘The outcome of the research project will be notified by the government which are to be used as official references. It is important to preserve the identity of indigenous community. Survey should be based on numbers of languages spoken by the people rather than tribes identity,’ he added.
