PASIGHAT, May 22: The students of Government Nursing College, Pasighat and other nursing colleges across the state have appealed to the state government to release their pending stipends for the 2020-21 session although it had been paid to the school and college students of other streams.
The B.Sc Nursing and GNM students of Government College of Nursing, Pasighat have sent their appeal to the Directorate of Medical Education and Health Minister Alo Libang to do the needful. Seeking Libang’s intervention, the students said that due to lockdown and curfew, price of essential items available around the college have reached a new high and delay in arrival of stipends have added to financial difficulties. 
Meanwhile, students from the boys section informed that they are being accommodated at the hostels of Health Assistants where in the same compound Covid workers of the dedicated Covid Hospital are staying and using the same water tap. 
When asked about the engagement of students in clinical and covid duties, Principal Natel Jamoh clarified that they are not being engaged in such duties and are only attending regular classes. When contacted, Jt. Director, Health Services (T & R), Bakin Pertin General Hospital Dr D. Raina Pasighat expressed the view to stop offline classes of the nursing school. On the issue of pending stipends, he said he had already forwarded the application to the Directorate for early release.
When contacted, Dy. Director, Medical Education Dr S. Engling Khamti on Saturday informed that he had already apprised  the matter to the higher office as the state government is not releasing any separate funds for the medical students citing the prevailing Covid situation. He also mentioned that around 1700 students of MBBS, BDS, D Pharma, Nursing etc. studying across the country and in the state are yet to receive their stipends and the funds have to be released from the Central government through the National Scholarship portal. However, Dr Khamti suggested that all nursing students of Pasighat, Naharlagun, Namsai, Tawang, Daporijo etc. must apply afresh after which the Directorate will urge the government to release this year’s stipend and from next year onwards they will be directed to apply through the National Scholarship portal.
When contacted, Libang while assuring to address the concern of the students said he had directed the department officials to put up the file of pending stipends.
