ITANAGAR, Jun 19: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union today said it won't compromise when it comes to indigenous land and Chakma settlers will have to toe the line if they want to stay here. This comes in the wake of the Khatan incident where a group of Chakma people intruded into the village of indigenous Mishmi and attacked them with lethal weapons.
An AAPSU team led by its General Secretary Tobom Dai, Vice President Meje Taku along with other district organisations visited Khatan village today.
Speaking to the media, Dai informed that team of AAPSU and its frontal wings today visited Khatan to take stock of the ground situation. ‘We strongly condemn the intimidation, gunfire by the illegal Chakma settlers. We have noticed that Chakma people have illegally encroached the indigenous land and established a village,' he said.
The GS informed that the team also met the Chakma villagers and suggested them to follow the law of the land, if they want to stay peacefully in the designated area. ‘They have intruded into the land of local people by moving out from their designated blocks. Yes, there is some issue of flood in their area however, there is some rule for replacement but it has been noticed that due to their massive population they have rampantly occupied land of the indigenous people.'
The Union said its stand is clear and if they (Chakmas) want to stay here they have to follow the rule of law and it won’t compromise when it comes to indigenous land. 'Since 1964 we have offered them land as refugees on humanitarian ground due to their religious exploitation and Kaptai dam displacement but unfortunately now they are trying to seize our lands,' added the AAPSU General Secretary while informing that they will meet the state government and demand immediate strong action on the issue.
When asked about the lack of development in  Khatan village, Dai assured that team AAPSU will apprise the issue to the local MLA  Chowna Mein who is also the Deputy Chief Minister  and other concerned  authority.
