ITANAGAR, Apr 24:The North East Olympic Committee has expressed displeasure over the treatment meted to Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio in a programme organized in honour of President of International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach during his maiden visit to the country recently.

Peeved over the development , it stated in a release "Though the Chief Minister attended the event as President of the Nagaland Olympic Association, his stature as the Chief Minister of a state of the Indian union cannot be ignored, which demands recognition, reception and treatment as per laid down protocol, which were flawed and ignored by the IOA.”

“Such unwelcoming behaviour meted out to the constitutionally elected head of a state on part of the IOA is not only demeaning but discrimination towards the NE region and its leader. Sports lovers and lead promoters of Olympic Games of the NE-region in particular have been discouraged and hurt by this conduct of the Apex Olympic Body of the country,” it further added.

It later requested IOC to ensure that such protocol violation is not repeated in near future.
