BOMDILA, May 2: The first independent expedition of National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) to Mt. Gorichen was flagged-off today by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sonal Swaroop at NIMAS campus Dirang.
The 24 member expedition team to be led by Director NIMAS Col. Sarfraz Singh would attempt summiting the 21410 feet high Mt. Gorichen comprising of five peaks in about twenty two days beginning from May 3. Mt. Gorichen happens to be the third highest peak in the north-east.
The pre-monsoon expedition has been planned in order to foster the spirit of adventurism among the locals. And accordingly, besides the NIMAS personnel, a total of eight local youths including two girls are part of the expedition team.
Interacting with the local youths, DC Sonal Swaroop urged them to be committed and bring laurels to the institute and make the district proud.
Earlier, Col. Singh made the detailed presentation about the expedition and dealt on the logistics and the evacuation plan.
