YUPIA, Dec 7: DC Papum Pare, Tai Kaye held a developmental meeting with Mikir (Karbi) Arunachalee of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. 

The Gaon Buras (GBs) and Panchayat representatives of Tarasso Mikir, Balijan Mikir, Hollongi Mikir, Kokila Mikir and Chessa Mikir known as Karbis apprised the DC in connection with genuine grievances for solution comprising five above mentioned villages and submitted a memorandum.       

The DC highlighted developmental schemes and incentives from state and central government. All kinds of developmental activities are reachable to Mikir (Karbi) villages at par with other villages of Arunachal Pradesh. The DC also reiterated the Karbis that they are Arunachalees under administrative jurisdiction of AP Government and  PRC, are issued to them in their respective village jurisdiction like other villages in AP alongwith LPC when applied for. 

In response to the issue of ST Certificates, DC confirmed that the issue of ST certificate discontinued when Mikir was amended as Karbi for Mikirs of Assam substituted as Karbis whereas Mikirs of AP, Nagaland, Mizoram and Meghalaya are still Mikirs not Karbis except in Assam. The Mikirs are ST in AP under provision of the ST Amendment Act 1950 and eligible for any facility in Arunachal Pradesh.
