Heroin worth 1.25Cr seized, 2 women peddlers arrested

ITANAGAR, Jan 12: In the biggest ever recovery of contraband in the state, the SIT, Arunachal Pradesh Police today seized close to half a kilogram of Heroin with its market value pegged at over 1.25 Crore and arrested two female peddlers.
This is a vital blow to the interstate Dimapur-Tezpur-Nirjuli pathway of contraband influx, the police said. The SIT has been on the lookout to bust the Inter-state narcotics mafia, being operated by individuals based in Assam, with narcotics sourcing from the heart of Nagaland which play a pivotal role in introducing contraband into Arunachal Pradesh and flooding its streets with banned substances, said SP, SIT Rohit Rajbir Singh in a press statement.
The team of SIT, led by SP SIT and OC SIT, Inspr. Ngilyang Lali, received a secret Intel about movement of a massive amount of Heroin, from Dimapur (Nagaland), via Assam, to Arunachal Pradesh, via the use of Public Transportation Network. The suspects were zeroed down and identified as Mariyam Basumatary(30), a native of Village Hatipatiashantipara, Tezpur, Sonitpur District, Assam, and Choti Rapung (18), a native of Seppa, East Kameng.
After developing this information for over a month, finally today, the SIT strike team consisting of Inspr. Ashok Tayeng, SI Chuman Chena, Ct. DawaDorjee, Ct. NyamarRiba, Ct. Tagiam Giba, Ct. (D) J. Sikom, L/C Sahin Ansari and L/C Sonam Chiriju conducted an operation to apprehend the two drug peddlers, while they were coming through a night shuttle running from Dimapur to Naharlagun. Both the accused were traced and intercepted via a trap laid down in Nirjuli.
A huge amount of contraband psychotropic substance - Heroin, weighing 471.56 grams(commercial quantity) was seized from their possession.The market value of the seized contraband is pegged at around 1.25 crores.
Furthermore, in continuation to this operation, raids are being conducted at various locations. The Dimapur source is also being identified and necessary penal action shall be taken against them too. A case under relevant sections is being registered, and further interrogation is being carried out, informed SP, SIT Rohit Rajbir Singh.
