ITANAGAR, Apr 30: Jails should be reformative centres, aimed at reforming criminals and helping them find a new way of life when they are released, said Governor PB Acharya today while interacting with members of All Arunachal Pradesh Delinquent Welfare Association (AAPDWA) at Raj Bhavan.
The Governor also lauded the association for taking up the initiative to provide a common platform to all those who were earlier involved in criminal activities but are now willing to rejoin mainstream society and work towards socio- economic development.
The association submitted a five point agenda to the Governor that included opening up of rehabilitation centres in the state and the formulation of some special schemes for the welfare of the delinquents. The Governor assured to look into the matter and asked the Secretary to Governor to write to the Department of Social Justice for the consideration of these issues.
As a token of encouragement, the Governor assured to give the room rent of Rs 36,000 (Rupees Thirty Six Thousand) only for a year as the rent for the association’s office. He also assured to provide furniture for their office from Raj Bhawan.
