ITANAGAR, Feb 17:

The month of February in Itanagar is filled with celebrations and the India Heritage Walk Festival(IHWF) 2018 is offering the residents of Itanagar a chance to double the celebration. IHWF 2018 is a month-long, multi-city event, introducing people to the tangible and intangible heritage of their cities, and celebrating India’s rich cultural diversity. It is organised by Sahapedia (sahapedia.org) an encyclopaedia of Indian arts and culture, and YES Culture, the cultural division of YES Global Institute, a practicing think tank of YES BANK.

Itanagar is the only city in the North-East to be part of this pan-Indian event celebrated in 20 cities and as a part it, is hosting two heritage walks.

Today, the first walk titled, “A Heritage Trail to the Fallen Warbirds of Itanagar” was conducted to provide a glimpse of aviation history of two HAL-built Gnat fighter aircrafts and local folklores associated with fallen warbirds. About 25 students from Rajiv Gandhi University and Dera Natung Government college participated in the heritage trail from IG Park to Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum.

The Walk was led by Mr. Duli Ete, Assistant Prof., Department of History Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar. He will also lead the second walk, “Revisiting Forgotten Western Gate of Itafort” on Saturday 24th February, to create awareness on the archaeological landscape of Itafort, its history and enigmatic ruins of the Western Gate and discuss the controversy surrounding its builder.
