RONO HILLS, Nov 17:  “We want to make Rajiv Gandhi University the most important hub for media education in the country in the context of New Education Policy 2020," said Prof. Saket Kushwaha, the Vice-chancellor of RGU, Doimukh.
Speaking at the valedictory session of the two-day international conference titled ‘Media Education and National Education Policy-2020: A Trans-Disciplinary Global Perspective, MEDUNEP-2021, Prof. Kushwaha highlighted the importance of bringing about radical changes in media education to meet the objectives of new National Education Policy.
Greetings participants and resource persons, Prof. Kushwaha commended the effort made by the Department of Mass Communication for focussing on NEP 2020 and the significance of media education in society. 
The pandemic has tremendously increased the job requirements and responsibility of the teachers, especially as they prepare to meet the expectations of NEP. Efforts must be made by the department to bring a policy paper as well as a book/compendium with ISBN number, so that this particular effort is noted properly and the document must be circulated among the people, he said.
Media Education and National Education Policy -2020: A trans-disciplinary global Perspective, MEDUNEP 2021 has been successfully organized by the Department of Mass Communication, Rajiv Gandhi University in collaboration with four leading universities of India-- University of Hyderabad, Telangana, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi, Manipur University, Imphal and Tripura University, Agartala. 
Prof. Kh. Kabi, adviser  MEDUNEP 2021 and Dean of Information Technology, Dept. of Mass Communication, RGU, said that the two day e-conference has been enriching for all with the kind of talks and discussions and hoped that the discussion will go forward further for a comprehensive output. 
Dr. Sweta Singh, Co-Convenor and Senior Assistant Professor University School of Mass Communication, GGSIP  University, New Delhi gave a brief report on the conference.
Participating in the valedictory session, Director, Institute for International Journalism E. W. Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University, USA, Dr. Jatin Srivastava appreciated such conferences in bringing people from all over India together.
 "Technology has brought people together and conferences are affordable and bring out local voices, it gives opportunities to emerging scholars who are starting their career or are in the middle of their career," he said.
Praising the organisers for the initiative, Director, School of Journalism and Mass Communication Aryabhatta Knowledge University Patna, Prof. Iftekhar Ahmed, suggested that RGU must come up with an agenda like Paris Agenda of 2007, UNESCO and form a committee to further act on it so that the education system of the country can be improved along with the media profession of the country by doing further research on it.
Prof. Nirmala Mani Adhikary from the Department of Languages and Mass Communication, School of Arts, Kathmandu, Nepal in his speech called for work to be done in the field of theory. "It is known that the highest achievement in any discipline of knowledge is considered of theory.

It is the area where non Western countries are lagging behind," she said.

Registrar of the University, Dr. N. T. Rikam called upon all the participants from academics, researcher and media practitioners in the conference across the globe coming together in one platform to chart out numerous positive contributions in strengthening our growth story in the media education sector. He added, building a media literate citizen is as important as creating media professionals. The two should also go hand in hand as the desired communication is successfully transmitted and we all are ready to take our country forward, he added.
Dr. Sunil Koijam of the department proposed the vote of thanks. More than 46 research papers were presented in the two day conference with two plenary session and six invited speakers.
