ITANAGAR, Jan 19:Disappointment over sudden raid and seizure of large commodities from various shops under the capital complex by officials of the legal metrology, Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA), president, Yumlam Achung has urged the chief secretary to strongly instruct the department to serve prior intimation before conducting such raids.
“Such untimely seizure of goods from businesses has lowered the prestige of proprietors and degraded the entrepreneurship sprit of employees of such enterprises,” said Achung.
Admitting that few goods are flowing in the market without MRP tag on the product, however Achung justified that sometimes shopkeepers who cannot afford to start branded shops or due to lack of employment opportunities have been compelled to sell such products for survival.
“The legal metrology department must understand the ground situation of our state and specially the condition of the twin capital where most utility goods are shipped from other states and prices of which escalates while reaching here due to various reasons,” Achung asserted.
Further requesting the department not to play with sentiments of the business community, the IMWA president urged the DA to initiate disciplinary action against the officials; whose action he alleged was no less than extortionists.
