ITANAGAR, Nov 22: Home Minister Bamang Felix, who is also the government spokesperson, has categorically said that the 14-point demands of the All Nyishi Students Union were addressed by the Department of Education on October 15 last.
He added, the action taken report was also furnished to the ANSU President.
“Therefore, the bandh call by the union on Tuesday is not justified. Hence, I appeal to the union to call off the bandh,” Felix said, while addressing the media persons at the Press Information Centre (PIC), Secretariat here on Monday.
Felix said the competent authority from the education department wisely examined the demands and accordingly, within 40 days had furnished the action taken report, where almost all the matters were resolved.
Moreover, there is a CBSE exam scheduled on November 23, which will adversely affect the academic career of the students appearing for the exam.
“The team ANSU was called on today to resolve the matter in the Secretariat, to which they refused to attend. Likewise, they also didn’t turn up for a meeting called by the Capital DC,” he said, adding that all the normal activities shall be continued.
He said the Capital SP has been directed to ensure the swift passage of public and security. And any damage to public property, the union will bear the expenses as per the order issued by the Court.
Also responding to the transfer of Education Commissioner Niharika Rai, Felix said the demands related to the education sector are also resolved. Thus, there is no reason for her transfer, as she is performing her duty.
“However, the state government will look into various allegations on her of being incompetent to hold various other government posts. The public should also know that transfer of an officer is a normal procedure,” he added.
Reacting to the third demand of ANSU to withdraw the FIR registered against the executive members of the union, Felix said that there is no such provision to withdraw the FIR by the state government.
He said the matter is under investigation and if the union feels there was no wrongdoing by the members, they should wait for the final outcome.
“We all are governed by certain laws and it’s our responsibility to abide by them. There are some rules that every single person entering the state Civil Secretariat has to abide by,” he said, adding that he never received any call from the union on the matter.
He also informed that the Civil Secretariat is people’s property and no one is disallowed to enter the premises. There were instances where the public were not allowed to enter the premises due to Covid-19 restriction. Now, the public are free to enter the premises with checking in the entrance.
Felix informed, besides the 14 points demands, the state government has also taken up the matter to correct the word ‘Nyishi’, which was misprinted in the Class VIII Social Science Book as ‘Nishi’.
Likewise, the student’s intake capacity for Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) and Government College, Doimukh has been increased to 550 and 100 respectively.
Earlier, ANSU had called a bandh call on November 23, next demanding immediate transfer of Education Commissioner Niharika Rai and withdrawal of FIR.
