NAHARLAGUN, Jun 28: Acting on a caveat issued by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), Government of India asking consumers to refrain from using certain samples of Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo, Directorate of Health Services of Arunachal Pradesh has issued a directive banning their sale and ordering an immediate withdrawal of the samples from the market.
According to a press release issued by the Assistant Drugs Controller-cum-Licensing Authority, Directorate of Health Services, any firm found to be stocking products of the baby shampoo manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, an American multinational medical devices, pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods company bearing batch numbers BB58177 and BB58204, shall be strictly dealt with as per the provisions of Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules, 1945.
It can be recalled that Chairperson, NCPRC through a letter (No. 2503/09/2016-17/NCPCR/Health/90764) had asked the Commissioner, Women and Child Development Department, Government of Arunachal Pradesh to do the needful in this regard after it was confirmed by the Government Analyst Drug Testing Laboratory, Jaipur that the said samples of the baby shampoo are ‘Not of Standard Quality’ due to the presence of formaldehyde, a carcinogenic substance harmful for health and safety of users.
