ITANAGAR, Aug 27: The Galo Youth Organization (GYO) has urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) to immediately restore surface connectivity on the Likabali-Basar road which has remained off vehicular traffic for last two weeks as heavy rain triggered snapping of road at several locations.
The Akajan-Likabali-Bam road is the lone road and the lifeline of West Siang, Lepa Rada and Upper Subansiri districts, the GYO said expressing concern that the important highway has been left languishing for years.
Before the highway construction work started, vehicular movement was smooth on this particular stretch but since work began there is always a problem resulting in commuters having to face lots of problems. Vehicles have to halt every 20 seconds or so to navigate the bumps and potholes on the road, it said.
GYO as the frontal organization of Galo Welfare Society has already submitted several representations to the state government and the concerned authority to speed up the ongoing highway construction but till today the construction company has not completed even 50 per cent of the road whereas construction started in 2016, a release stated.
While cautioning that further delay is likely to stoke public anger, the GYO has asked the NHIDCL to direct the construction company to immediately restore the road blockage points and also expedite the construction process.
Director, NHIDCL has given assurance that two lane road of Akajan-Bam stretch will be completed by March 2022, the organisation further informed.

The GYO's general secretary Luknya  Kena, vice-president Geken Boje and S/service secretary Tonya Kayi were present during the call on.
