NIT ragging case
ITANAGAR, Mar 12:The Galo Students Union (GSU) on Monday has strongly condemned the physical assault on Dui Doji, a 1st year Civil engineering student at NIT, Agartala by a group of seniors of the same institute on Saturday.
In a release, the union stated that such cases of ragging which is already banned by apex court in educational institutions should not be taken lightly and the perpetrators should be punished with strict section of laws.
Informing that instead of supporting the victim’s family the college authority is now pressurizing them to withdraw the FIR in order to protect the institute’s reputation, the union termed the management’s response as shocking.
In this regards, the GSU asked the state government to intervene and take up the matter with Tripura government including the NIT authorities to give justice to the victim. It further requested the government to initiate action for shifting the victim to NIT Yupia, Papumpare.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has described as “unfortunate” the alleged incident of ragging at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala.Rijiju wrote in Twitter today that he has spoken to Tripura Chief Minister Diplab Kumar Deb as well as the Director General of Police and the police are “taking appropriate actions” in the case.
