ITANAGAR, Sep 9: Governor Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) has extended his warm greetings to the people of the State, particularly to the Khowa Tribe on the festive occasion of Pham-Kho-Sowai. He expressed his hope that the festive occasion would harbinger a year of happiness, bumper harvest, and prosperity for all.
In his message to the people, the Governor said that Pham-Kho-Sowai, the popular Sowai (festival) of the Khowa Tribe of West Kameng District, draws its name from Pham (the mountain) and Kho (the river) which have a special significance in their living and sustenance. Pham-Kho-Sowai festival is linked with the harvesting of crops and it is an expression of gratitude, through prayers, to God Almighty, who has bestowed in corporeal form, these benevolent natural bodies to support the human race on earth. From time immemorial, this festival has been celebrated by the Khowa Tribe, inter alia, for maintaining a balanced relationship between man, the natural bodies and the environment. The rituals of Pham-Kho-Sowai facilitate preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of Khowa Community, he said.
The Governor appealed to the Khowa brethren to celebrate the popular festival in a befitting manner and pass on the tradition to the coming generation so as to enable them, in times to come, to remain connected with their roots.
