ITANAGAR, Sep 4:Governor PB Acharya and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have greeted the teaching fraternity of the State on the eve of Teachers’ Day.

The Governor in his message said that the Teachers’ Day is an occasion when we recognise the dedicated services of the teachers of our nation, who are engaged in building and strengthening the intellectual and ethical foundations of our children.

He however said that greed for easy money has changed the scenario and education has become a business. ‘Government appointed teachers are getting good salary compared to private school teachers but some of the Government teachers escape from their duties by appointing proxy teachers against their name in the place of postings. Even though it is a small section of government teachers carrying out such practices, it cannot be pardoned,’ he said.

Exhorting teachers to be ‘game changer’ and socially accountable, Acharya called upon the teachers to encourage their students to think critically about broader issues concerning our Nation, society and the environment.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu in his message termed teachers as the cornerstones who create responsible citizens and good human beings.

I take pride to salute our teachers as we are aware of the circumstances they work, especially in remote and rural areas, shaping the future of our state. Let’s recognize, acknowledge and pay our respects to the teaching community of our state on this auspicious occasion, the CM said.

Despite hardships like lack of basic facilities like accommodation and communication, teachers in remote Arunachal Pradesh have proved more than their mettle in educating and churning out intellectuals over the years. Our teachers need more appreciation and recognition than their counterparts elsewhere,  Khandu said reiterating that his government is committed to look into these issues.

I also hope that this Teachers Day would re-instil in our teachers a sense of responsibility towards students and re-dedicate for the cause of the world’s noblest profession. With teachers’ cooperation our children will receive quality learning in the best of environment, the message added further.
