ITANAGAR, Apr 29:  The Galo Welfare Society (GWS) on Saturday rejected the press statement by Arunachal Pradesh Police on the Tumi Gangkak mysterious death case terming it as malafide and defamatory statements and urged the police not to indulge in character assassination of the late Under Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission. The society also said that if needed, the family is ready to exhume the body of late Gangkak for another autopsy to prove that his death was not a suicide as repeatedly claimed by the police department.
Addressing the media persons at the press club today, Jarpum Gamlin, who is a relative of late Gangkak, condemned the narrative of ‘suicide’ being created by the investigating agency based on the PM report. He further questioned and raised concern about the direction in which the Police is attempting to take the matter.
"APP Spokesperson Sanjay Bhatia(IPS)  has extensively relied on the Post-Mortem report to suggest that late Gangkak’s death is suicidal in nature. He is absolutely right in stating that, however, as a seasoned policeman, he should also tell the public that post-mortem alone is not exhaustive to make an absolute claim, as he has been doing," Gamlin said.
Citing the post-mortem report which stated that late Gangkak had died 12-24 hours prior to the conduct of post-mortem, he said "The autopsy took place around 12.20PM on 25th February 2023, which means that the deceased was alive till the afternoon of February 24th, which happens to be the day his body was discovered around the same time i.e, 12-12.30PM. That means, late Gangkak was alive till around 12-12.30AM of the intervening night of February 23&24." asking the police to explain where late Gangkak was for nearly 7 hrs between 5.30PM of February 23 and 12-12.30PM of the intervening night.
He also refuted police claim of recovering a blade from the deceased's residence and sought explanation for two blades missing from the new packet of blades at the site.
"We expect the police to be professional and conduct press briefing if they find new evidences related to his death. Least that we expect from the police department is to appear before the media and try to create new narrative based on the old evidences and reports which is already in the court," he said.
The GWS also took exception to police claims that the deceased searched the word "depression" on Google and its attempt to suggest that late Gangkak had not returned a sum of more than rupees 13 lakhs to the APPSC which may have forced him to take the extreme step.
“The claim of the police that Gangkak possessed an amount of Rs. 13.40 lakhs is totally an attempt to malign his clean image. The commission lacks a standard operating procedure (SOP) in regard to the usage of corpus funds. We have every detail of the expenditure made by the deceased, which is  not as claimed by the police spokesperson,” Gamlin said.
Gamlin further claimed that there is no concrete reason for suicide but there are several reasons to murder Gangkak as he had been repeatedly questioning the APPSC on the illegalities being carried out in the commission since 2013. "Late Gangkak was not only given a clean chit by the CBI but also by the SIT and  SIC including APPSC members," he said, adding that "there is no chance that the deceased was involved in any kind of unprofessional conduct."
The GWS further reiterated its stand  that Gangkak's death is not suicide and has called for thorough investigation of Inspector (SIC) Bumchu Krong and Tapun Messar to solve the case.
Meanwhile, Galo Welfare Society (GWS) General Secretary, Nyadar Loya informed that the GWS will no longer meet any authority and announced to resort to democratic movement as and when required.  The GWS has demanded probe of the case by a sitting or retired judge,  CDR of Inspector Bomchu Krong,  details of  2017 APPSC answer sheet with names of the candidates for which late Gangkak was repeatedly called to verify the signatures.
