ITANAGAR, Aug 21: Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang has floated a new political party-- Arunachal Democratic Party (ADP), which plans to contest all 60 Assembly constituencies in the upcoming 2024 Assembly elections.
Addressing the media on the occasion of the party's launch here at the press club, Apang highlighted that the Election Commission has granted approval for the ADP's party name and symbol, marking a crucial milestone in their journey towards the Assembly elections. The former CM expressed his commitment to introducing a fresh perspective to the political scene, distancing the ADP from the traditional high command system.
"The high command system has looted our state. I have had the worst experiences with this system," Apang stated, reflecting his desire to break free from the conventional politics of dependence on national parties for developmental funds. Arunachal Pradesh boasts significant resources, and I believe that the state's potential can be harnessed independently to fuel its development, asserted the former CM.
Amid the challenges posed by corruption prevalent in the state's governance, Apang emphasized the ADP's focus on nurturing the younger generation and driving the state's growth. While a comprehensive party manifesto will soon be unveiled to the public, Apang hinted at a priority to work on statehood Article 371(H) of the Indian Constitution. ADP believes, that it will unlock the state's abundant resources and promote self-reliance, he added,
Nyasam Jongsam, a founding member of the ADP, concurred with Apang's vision, reiterating the party's commitment to leveraging Arunachal Pradesh's resources for its own progress. Jongsam affirmed that the party's detailed manifesto would be shared with the public shortly.
We have opened the doors of the ADP to the state's citizens, inviting them to become part of a historic transformation. The launch of the ADP signifies not only a new political entity but also a significant step toward a new dawn of development, added Jongsam.
