ITANAGAR, Feb 6:
Governor BD Mishra today graced the 18th Conference of Higher & Technical Education of as chief guest at Itanagar.
In his inaugural address, the Governor emphasised on making concerted effort to orientate the educational thrust by promoting science, technology, skill development and need based curriculum.
Sharing his views and experiences, the Governor said that there are five pillars of Higher and Technical Education which are Merit based education, Research based education, Need based Education, positivity oriented education and Fraternity and Nationalism Oriented Education.
Elaborating, the Governor said that higher education must be useful to the person as well as to society.
‘It must help the individual to work with integrity and succeed with integrity. The education in the universities must match the need of society, market and the state,’ he opined.
The Governor, who gave away the awards to the University toppers in the undergraduate levels, expressed happiness that all the toppers were girl students.
A book titled ‘Paddy-cum-Fish Culture in Ziro Valley’ by Dr. Dani Kacha, Assistant Professor, Govt. College, Yachuli, Basic Information on Higher & Technical Education and NSS Newsletter were released on the occasion.
Education Minister Honchun Ngandam, Secretary Education Dr. Madhu Rani Teotia, Special Secretary Education Himanshu Gupta, Prof. Tamo Mibang, Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University and In-charge Director, NIT, Prof. MM Shome and Higher & Technical Education Dr. Tayek Talom shared their views and ideas to strengthen higher and technical education in the State.

Ms. Dekey Chumky, B.sc (Zoology), Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar, Ms. Hage Okang, BA (Anthropology), St Claret College, Ziro and Ms. Tassar Ama, B. Com (Commerce), Don Bosco College, Itanagar received the Governor’s Award as University Toppers in Under Graduate level in Science, Arts and Commerce streams respectively.
Ms. Lobsang Tsekey, Civil Engineering, Rajiv Gandhi Govt Polytechnic, Itanagar, Mr. Ajoy Ghosh, Automobile Engineering, Rajiv Gandhi Govt Polytechnic, Itanagar and Mr. Raunak Kumar Tripathi, Mechanical Engineering, Govt Polytechnic, Namsai received the APSCTE Gold Medal as Polytechnic Toppers.
The Best NSS Unit Award for the year 2017 was given to Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat NSS Unit. Dr. Tamin Payum, Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat received the Best NSS Programme Officer award. Mr. Nyami Taso, Govt HIfgher Secondary School, Itanagar and Ms. Gami Bogo, Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat received the Best NSS Volunteer’s awards.
