PASIGHAT, Jan 28:
East Siang joined the rest of the country in the nationwide campaign against polio virus by launching the second phase of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) drive across the district on Sunday. According to DMO Dr. M Perme, 127 booths have been set up to immunize approximately 7,400 children.
DC cum Chairman, District Health Society (DHS)Tamiyo Tatak formally launched the programme by administering polio drops to a child at Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC asked for ensuring 100% vaccine coverage of targeted children under IPPI, deploying adequate men, materials and equipment to administer polio drops to children below 5 years at the doorstep of citizens in the district. He instructed the DMO to constantly monitor the performance and underscored the importance of entrusted paramedical staffers in such programs.
Tatak while urging the PRIs, councilors, GBs and public in general to extend their help and cooperation in the process adding that this war against crippling disease like polio was not just the responsibility of the medical department but ours as well.
Meanwhile, the DMO informed that above four thousand children were immunized on the first day and house to house survey cum immunization would be carried out on Monday for left out children.
