PASIGHAT, May 2:  The 12 hour East Siang bandh called by Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) demanding the state government to uphold the geo-physical boundary mapping of Adi Baane Kebang while upholding the Dharmendra Sharma led High Power Committee recommendation on Lower Siang District boundary demarcation passed off peacefully today.

All the markets, educational institutes, banks etc remained closed. While most of the government offices were also closed, those which were open didn’t see any attendance as all remained indoors seeing the intensity of the bandh. Even APST buses were stopped from plying, but ambulance, milk van, magistrate on duty, media were exempted from the purview of the bandh.

Speaking to this scribe, AdiSU’s Kaling Eko and Buteng Tayeng said that, the state government also needs to regard the sentiments of Adis and adhere with the recommendation of Dharmendra Sharma led High Power committee. “The state government also ought to maintain their own decision and don’t make any alteration in regards to boundary recommendation of Dharmendra Sharma led committee. The group of ministers constituted for the purpose is also appealed not to alter it,” the duo added. If the state government fails to uphold our demands and appeals as placed before the government, next phase of 24 hour rigorous bandh covering entire Adi dominated districts will be declared, added Kaling Eko.

Meanwhile, SP East Siang, Pranav Tayal informed that, the bandh passed off peacefully and no untoward incident has been reported as police and CRPF forces were deployed.  --

GSU condemns ‘illogical’ claims

ITANAGAR, May 2:The Galo Students' Union (GSU) has strongly condemned the Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) and its allied organizations for creating unnecessary obstacles in functionalization of the long pending Lower Siang District. The union took strong exception to the repeated illogical claims of boundary demarcation of the district as per Geo-political mapping and the Dharmendra Sharma led High powered committee report.

The Dharmendra committee report was prepared at Pasighat under pressure and influence from vested interested individuals and organisations without taking into considerations the views and opinions of the inhabitants of 36th Nari-Koyu Assembly Constituency, the union alleged.

Further asserting that the said committee had never visited the areas and had never interacted or conducted any public hearings and meetings, the GSU added that the State Government also never accepted the recommendations of the Dharmendra Sharma led High powered committee.

The GSU or any other organizations from the community had never created any hurdles when the Siang District was carved out from the present West Siang District. Rather, community members had extended support even when East Siang was carved out from the West Siang District, it said in a press release.

The Union also questioned the logic behind coining of the term Adiland by a matured CBO like the ABK. The house present appealed the ABK not to create unnecessary disturbances and respect the age-old relations between the two communities and also refrain from provocative acts. The State Govt especially the Home department should take due note of the acts of the ABK and initiate necessary action, it said.

RBSU terms bandh ‘illegal’

NARI, May 2:Ramle Banggo Students’ Union (RBSU) today termed ‘illegal’ the alleged ‘Referendum Rally’ conducted by Adi Bane Kebang (ABK) at Kora village and the subsequent 12 hour bandh call by Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) in the district including Nari and Koyu-Kora Circle.

Joined in their condemnation of the same by Ramle Banggo Welfare Society (RBWS) and Ramle Banggo Social and Environment Protection Society (RBSEPS), the three organisations from the 36th Nari-Koyu Assembly Constituency took ‘serious exception’ to the call for upholding the 12 hour bandh by AdiSU at Nari and Koyu-Kora Circle in a press communiqué and termed it as “an unnecessary interference in the formalisation of the Lower Siang district with communal overtones.”

Dwelling on this, RBSU President Goli Doye informed this scribe that under the initiative of the Ramle Banggo Students’ Union and with support from the RBWS and the RBSEPS, the local residents of Nari and Koyu-Kora Circle have defied the 12 hours bandh call by the AdiSu and accordingly, all the government establishment along with schools and markets remained open throughout the entire period.

Also informing that about100 AdiSU members had tried to enter Nari town via Namey village to allegedly enforce the 12 hour bandh as declared by them, the RBSU president demanded the district administration to ensure strict adherence to law and order to prevent the situation from imploding.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the Nari Circle Officer Marpe Rina informed this daily that a group of youths numbering some around 100 had been stopped by the team of Police and CRPF Personnel led by SDPO O Tamut at the entrance of Namey Village.

“The swift action by the police was in compliance of the imposition of Section 144 Cr Pc in the geographical limits of Nari township and areas falling within five kilometres radius of the town as issued by the District Magistrate,” added CO Rina.

The SDPO, O Tamut who led the police personnel in dispersing the AdiSU youths at Namey Village also confirmed that there is no law and order problem in connection to the bandh call and that the administration along with the police are keeping tight vigil on the situation with the DC and the SP monitoring the entire situation.
