ITANAGAR, May 2:A Labour Empowerment Programme was organized here at Tadar Taniang Hall, DBYC, Itanagar by Don Bosco Alumni members to commemorate the International Labour Day and to empower the working class. A large number of labourers from various private institutions participated in the programme which included input sessions on issues pertaining to the working class.
While Mepung Tadar, Ex-Vice Chairperson, Arunachal Pradesh Commission for Women, spoke on minimum daily wages, equal wages for equal work and other legal aspects relevant to labourers, Jathi Pulu, President Don Bosco Alumni, Itanagar and former member of APPSC spoke on the necessity of ensuring the safety and security of labourers especially while they engage in hazardous works. In a touching message one of the labour representatives spoke of the many hardships they come across in life, especially poor working conditions, lack of medical insurance and other hardships relating to their work and life. The Residential English Fluency trainees of Don Bosco Youth Centre and Don Bosco Literacy Centre and labour representatives presented dances and songs to the delight of all present. Fr. Paulinus, Asst. Parish Priest, Catholic Church, Itanagar prayed for the safety and security of all labourers.
