CHONGKHAM, Jan 5: Demanding stern punishment against the culprits involved in the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl from Imphong under Chongkham circle of Namsai district, hundreds of people today gheraoed the Police station Chongkham and demanded speedy investigation and sentencing.
On December 23 last, Nang Priya Mungyak was allegedly raped and brutally murdered by a relative and the driver. The incident triggered outrage in the community as well as across the district. People from all walks of life are demanding stern punishment against the accused referring to the crime as similar to the ‘Nirbhaya’ incident.
Seeking justice for her daughter, the victim’s mother demanded capital punishment for the culprits.
‘I want the culprits to go through the same pain that my daughter has gone through in her early age,’ she said.
Further, All Tai Khamti & Singpho society in a joint memorandum to Extra Assistant Commissioner, Chongkham urged not to grant bail to all the accused until the investigation is complete. In its memorandum members also demanded clear update on the whole investigation proceedings.
Meanwhile, the administration in presence of the local MLA Zingnu Namchoom handed over the ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the victim’s mother.
