HAWAI, Mar 8:  An assessment meeting between a team of officials from ONGC (Mehsana, Gujarat) and officials of District Administration, Anjaw was held at Hawai on Wednesday. The district level visit by officials of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and oil PSUs was to assess the status of infrastructure and availability of petroleum products in the district.

The team headed by the Executive Director, Mehsana Asset (Gujarat), VJ Pandya along with Executive Assistant, ONGC, J Gogoi and Manager, IOC, SP Choudhury met with the DA officials and stakeholders of petroleum products in Anjaw.

District Food & Civil Supplies Officer, Hage Tath highlighted the difficulties faced by the easternmost districts of Arunachal Pradesh due to shortage of petroleum products and allied infrastructure. He also highlighted the non-existence of LPG agency in Anjaw because of which a consumer has to travel over 150 km to fulfill their LPG requirements. The absence of MS/HSD petrol depot in the district headquarters, Hawai has also added to the problems that citizens residing in Hawai, Walong, and Kibithoo Circles have been facing for quite a long period. Citing the topography of the region as another factor, he added, mountainous terrains of Anjaw along with heavy monsoon rain in the region and the consequent road blockages creates an acute shortage of petroleum products which not only affects the day to day administrative works but leads to increase in the price of commodities.

The Deputy Commissioner in-charge, B Tawsik (EAC), stressed on the fact that, DA will cooperate to their fullest to resolve these recurring problems if the MoP&NG, with the help of ONGC & IOC, could set up some retail outlets in these border areas.

Circle Officer (Hawai), Rome Mele, requested if ONGC, IOC and other PSUs alike could aid these remote areas through their Corporate Social Responsibilities initiatives.

Taking note of the problems presented to the team, Pandya, said that all the points would be highlighted in their report to the Ministry of Petroleum &Natural Gas.
