TAWANG, Jan 6:
The BRO labourers union staged a peaceful dharna in front of 125 RCC claiming violations of human rights by the Border Roads Organization.
The union is demanding for the transportation of the dead body of deceased Gaurang Nayak to his home town with full dignity and handing it over to his family members and relatives.
Gaurang Nayak was working under BRO 125 RCC and posted at Landa Dett as a migrant casual paid labourer. The union informed that Nayak fell ill while on duty on January 2 last and was admitted to District Hospital Tawang on January 3, which referred him to Baptist Hospital Tezpur.
"Unfortunately he expired below Lhou village at around 1800 hours en route to Tezpur. Although the matter was brought up to the knowledge of Landa Dett. Officer In-charge, official proceedings have been neglected and the body lies in the mortuary since January 3. The body ought to be subjected to postmortem and should be handed over to the bereaved family with honour.
The BRO authorities are murdering human rights since long by unclaiming deceased migrant workers and cremating them with no intimation to their families," the union wrote to Deputy Commissioner Tawang, Sang Phuntsok, pleading his intervention.
