ITANAGAR, Sep 20: As a part of the Paryatan Parv, Department of Tourism in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operator Association (APTOA) organized awareness programme on Homestay, Hospitality and Rural Tourism here at Sangdupota Community Hall today.

Hundreds of women, youths, students and villagers from Sangdupota circle attended the daylong training programme where topic on hospitality, homestay and cleanliness were taught by the experts from State Food Craft Institute.

In her keynote address, Assistant Director Tourism, Bengia Manna Sonam exhorted the youths and women group to take up tourism for their sustainable livelihood.

She also asked them to maintain hospitality, cleanliness and hygiene to make a conducive atmosphere for tourists.

On the ready availability of natural resources in the area, the assistant director urged them to use local resources for tourism purposes, adding tourism is the only sector after agriculture and horticulture which can give viable income to the local people.

Papum Pare DTO Tater Mize has appealed stake holders to make the area best tourist destination in the district.

 “The area being in the vicinity of capital complex has huge potential for eco and rural tourism. We need to explore and harness it properly and make the area best spot for tourism in the district”, he said.

Meanwhile, APTOA president John Panye while informing about involvement of homestay, transport, hotel and restaurant in tourism, asked the participants to harness the river, mountain and forest in a sustainable way.

In this regard, he also appealed the department to help in exploring the unexplored tourist spots of the area.

Informing about the first leg of Popum Poma River festival, Panye sought cooperation from all for successful conduct of the festival.

APTOA general secretary Bengia Mrinal also appealed the community to conserve the rich flora and fauna of the area in order to promote wildlife tourism.

He also asked the youths to engage themselves in tourism activities instead of running after government job and contract works.

Speaking as a resource person, Yomjum Yonggam of Yonggam Tours & Travels told the youths about the importance of adventure activities such as river rafting, angling, trekking and rock climbing while seeing the potential of adventure activities in the area.

Yonggam further asked the youths to go for training and adventure course to make adventure tourism successful in the area.

Later, the team also conducted tourism awareness campaign for the students and teachers of Govt Secondary School, Besar Nello.
