Bomdila, Mar 26: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee, West Kameng, was convened here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner.
The meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police, District Medical Officer, Executive Engineers of PWD (Bomdila, Dirang, Kalaktang and Thrizino), Deputy Director of School Education, among others.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner undertook a comprehensive review of the district’s road safety scenario, including the licensing system, existing road infrastructure, public awareness initiatives, enforcement mechanisms, emergency response systems, and parking management.
Emphasizing the need for preventive measures, the Deputy Commissioner directed all road construction and maintenance agencies to identify accident-prone locations across the district and ensure the installation of appropriate road furniture and signage to mitigate risks and enhance commuter safety.
The Deputy Director of School Education was instructed to intensify road safety awareness campaigns in educational institutions to inculcate responsible behaviour among students from an early age.
Key issues such as sinking roads in Bomdila, the absence of trauma care facilities in the district, and drainage-related challenges were also deliberated upon, with directions issued for timely and coordinated action by the concerned departments.
The meeting concluded with a call for strengthened inter-departmental coordination to ensure safer roads and improved traffic management across West Kameng district. (DIPRO)
