ITANAGAR, Aug 22:One-day training program on Eye screening for ASHA workers was held on  August 19 last at Gyati Takka Memorial Hospital, Ziro. The program was organised by Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, in collaboration with District Health Society, Lower Subansiri, Ziro. The program is a part of Comprehensive eye care program of Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, which is being supported by Light for the world, Austria.

The training program aims to train ASHA workers in identifying basic eye disease and vision screening. After the training, the ASHA workers would do door to door household survey and identify the patients with visual impairment and blindness. The identified patients would be screened in the subsequent confirmatory screening camps. Those needing medicines or glasses would be dispensed at community level and surgical cases will be transported to Gyati Takka Memorial Hospital, Ziro and free surgery would be done.

42 ASHA workers from Ziro-I and Ziro-II areas attended the training program.

The resource persons of the progam were Dr. D. Grayu, ophthalomologist, Gyati Takka Memorial Hospital, Ziro and Dr. Lobsang Tsetim, senior consultant ophthalmologist, Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar.
