ITANAGAR, Jul 21: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) staged a protest today at Rajiv Bhawan, Itanagar, condemning the distressing incident in Manipur, where two women were paraded naked and raped. The demonstrators voiced their frustration by burning effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, holding them responsible for the lack of peace in Manipur, even after nearly three months since the unrest began in the Northeastern state.
President of APYC Tarh Johny expressed resentment at the shocking incident in Manipur and criticized the BJP-led government both at the state and central level for their apparent inaction and silence.
"The BJP government in Manipur led by N. Biren Singh, and the central government led by Prime Minister Modi, have shown little urgency in addressing the issue of Manipur. While the PM seems to find time for foreign visits and other events, he has not shown enough concern for the victims who have suffered greatly," Johny stated.
He further highlighted the loss of hundreds of lives and the displacement of thousands of people due to the ongoing violence and unrest in Manipur. However, the government's response to the situation has been perceived as inadequate, leaving the victims and their families in distress.
"If the government cannot ensure justice for the innocent women and public of Manipur, then it is evident that Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh have failed in their duties and should resign immediately," demanded the APYC President.
He further added that reports have emerged of temples and churches being burnt down, as well as numerous cases of murder and rape in Manipur. Despite the gravity of the situation, the BJP government has maintained silence on the matter.
President APYC also questioned the lack of response from other Northeastern states' Chief Ministers including Pema Khandu, CM Arunachal Pradesh and Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam, regarding the Manipur tragedy who are usually vocals in speaking against Congress and its leaders on many occasions.
