ITANAGAR, Feb 5: Arunachal which has been experiencing a severe cold wave on Saturday saw more snowfall in the upper reaches.  Several parts of the state saw snowfall after decades while rainfall continued to lash other areas including the Itanagar Capital Region for days now.
In West Kameng, Rupa experienced snowfall after two decades while Dirang saw snow after nearly 15 years while Anini in Dibang Valley also witnessed snowfall after five years. Tourist hotspots--Tawang, Bomdila and Mechukha remained blanketed in thick layer of snow.
Weather report predicts thunderstorms with hail in parts of Arunachal with heavy snowfall in parts of West Arunachal over the next couple of days and sub-zero temperatures.
Temperatures might further dip in the Northeast Region of India, which is already reeling under a cold spell with heavy rain, snowfall, dense fog and thunderstorm over parts of the region in the next couple of days.
The Guwahati Meteorological Department has issued advisory that temperatures in the region are likely to fall during the day by (4 – 5)°C and below normal by (5-6)°C and the region may witness a rise in night temperatures by (3 – 4)°C. Warnings have been issued for certain parts of the region which may experience extreme weather phenomena.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre Guwahati, or RMC, has issued a weather warning for the northeastern states over the course of the next 4-5 days, keeping in view the current cold wave that has gripped the northeast.
As per the update, thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by hail are very likely to occur in isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, with heavy snowfall predicted in isolated places over West Arunachal Pradesh.
Furthermore, moderate to heavy rainfall with dense fog is also very likely to occur over several parts of the region, including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Furthermore, temperatures are expected to fall below 5 degrees Celsius in the coming days, with sub-zero temperatures in isolated areas of Arunachal Pradesh.
