ITANAGAR, Dec 14:In an effort to tackle the unaddressed aspect of garbage management—electronic waste or e-waste, Guwahati based Rongjeng Technologies Private Limited, engaged as an executing agency by International Finance Corporation (IFC) to promote safe disposal of e-waste,  on Thursday handed over a e-waste collection bin to the Arunachal Press Club.

The program is an initiative of World Bank Group to develop an ecosystem of e-waste management in the eight northeastern states of India. The Rongjeng Pvt limited took the task for its successful implementation under its extended producer responsibility (EPR) program.

While handing over the dustbin to media persons, State coordinator, Pema Wanghmu told that under the scheme, every beneficiary or household registered with Rongjeng will be provided with such dustbins free of cost to generate awareness about safe disposal of e-waste.

Wangmu told that one can drop any electronic equipment which is powered by an electrical source from a power socket to a mobile battery in the e-dustbin, which she said, will be collected later for recycling purpose.

Further appealing citizens to avail the benefit of the program, she also urged them to avoid disposal of e- waste in the open which is more hazardous than regular waste and sought support  in promoting a systematic and hygienic disposal of e-waste to minimize the damage being done by it to the environment.

Meanwhile AGS, Arunachal Press Club, Manoj Singh and General Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist, Tanom Jerang appreciated the effort  and appealed all to lend their helping hand to the pioneering effort of Rongjeng to address the growing problem of e-waste management in the city.
