ITANAGAR, Jan 17: The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) deferred its proposed 48-hours Capital bandh scheduled from 18 January next. The decision came in late evening after the District Magistrate released at least 21 members of the ANYA on Monday.
Speaking to reporters here after holding a short meeting with the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Itanagar Capital Region, President ANYA Byabang Joram clarified that the ANYA is deferring the proposed bandh but not calling it off until its demands are met.
“We are just deferring the bandh call, not calling it off. Our agitation will continue," said Joram. He also said that the DC, ICR had assured to release remaining members by Tuesday.
After all the detained members are released the Association will hold an executive meeting for further step to be taken, he informed.
Earlier in the day, 21 detainees were released including its ANYA Vice President, Temi Pabo and General Secretary, Dr. Bengia Tada. The Association had announced the bandh as the second phase of its agitation against the government, and also demanded release of its detained members including its Vice President and General Secretary.
On 10 December 2021, ANYA levelled several charges of corruption against Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and demanded his resignation serving a 15-day ultimatum seeking clarification on the allegation. It had also served seven ultimatums demanding the same and called 36-hours capital bandh call from 13 January last.
