Governor chairs high-level security review meeting

ITANAGAR, Nov 18:About 2000 alumni including thousands of students and hundreds of teachers from 36 Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Schools (VKVs) set up across the state are expected to attend the 40th foundation day of VKV in Arunachal Pradesh at Indira Gandhi Park, Itanagar.
The three day celebration which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Friday last would conclude on Sunday, where President of India, Ram Nath Kovind is expected to grace the valedictory function as Chief Guest.
This was informed by Chairman, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Alumni Association, Advocate Pritam Taffo in a press conference held this afternoon at press club.
Taffo also briefed about the sea changes that has taken place in the organization over the past 40 years and how it has brought significant changes in the education scenario of the state.
Sharing the long 40 years journey of VKV in the state, Taffo informed that in 1977, the first VKV School was opened for tribal children at Sher (near Kimin) in Papum Pare district, which started its journey with 30 students and few teachers.
However following huge demand from the masses, six more VKVs, at Balijan, Roing, Jairampur, Kharsang, Oyan and Seijosa were established that same year. And the number increased to 36 today, wherein more than 10,000 students are pursuing their studies, he added.
He further disclosed that the main aim of the organization was to provide value based education to tribal people, which is guided by principle and ideology of famous saint and its founding father, Swami Vivekananda.
Various kinds of programmes would be organized during the three day long foundation day celebration.
