ROING, Dec 20: A comprehensive two-day training cum field visit program was conducted for Agricultural Officers from Lohit, Namsai, Changlang, Tirap, and Longding districts. The event, organized by the Directorate of Agriculture Naharlagun, focused on Oil Palm cultivation and its potential economic benefits for farmers.
The training program, held on December 19 and 20, highlighted the importance of Oil Palm cultivation and its successful implementation in districts like Lower Dibang Valley, East Siang, Lower Siang, and Papum Pare since 2015-2018. The program aimed to extend this successful cultivation to additional districts, recognizing the enormous potential that the eastern zone districts, constituting 71% of the targeted areas offer.
During the training session held at Anchal Bhawan Roing, the officers were briefed on the policies, programs, directives, targets, and price fixation set by the Government of India concerning Oil Palm cultivation. Bidol Tayeng, Commissioner (Agriculture), addressed criticisms and dispelled rumours regarding the adverse impacts of Oil Palm cultivation in his keynote address. The main challenge faced in the expansion of Oil Palm cultivation in the proposed districts lies in the import of sprouts from Malaysia and Indonesia and their subsequent cultivation in local primary and secondary nurseries for 12 months. Overcoming this hurdle is crucial for the successful adoption of Oil Palm cultivation, he added.
Gagan Parying, a progressive farmer from Roing,  shared his positive experience with Oil Palm cultivation, describing it as an 'ATM' for farmers due to its ability to provide regular income every fortnight.
In a field visit, officers had the opportunity to interact with Dature Muili, a progressive farmer from Rukmo Village near Roing, who holds the credit of establishing the largest individual Oil Palm cultivation in India, spanning an impressive 206 hectares. The visit also included an inspection of the Oil Palm fruits processing factory at 9 km Roing, scheduled to be commissioned in the coming months.
The Oil Palm cultivation in Lower Dibang Valley is being promoted by 3F Oil Palm Agrotech Private Ltd, a Hyderabad-based company. The two-day program was attended by key figures including Bidol Tayeng, Commissioner (Agriculture), K. Riram, Director (Agriculture), T. D. Neckom, Jt Director (Agriculture), War Nyori, ADO (Oil Palm), District Agriculture Officers, Agronomists, KVK Heads, and ADOs from the five district, stated a release.
