ITANAGAR, Jul 19: State Assembly Speaker P D Sona on Tuesday distributed Agarbatti Making Machines to beneficiaries under Polymer & Chemical Based Industries (PCBI) & Gramodhyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) at APKVIB Complex, Chandranagar.
The programme was organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to enable local artisans to establish their own Agarbatti manufacturing units to generate income.
Applauding the KVIC for the initiative, the Speaker said, though it is a small yet significant one to help out the local people to generate their own income. He urged the Commission to carry out beneficiary identification throughout the state and ensure that only genuine people are given the benefits.
Highlighting challenges of people living in rural areas like lack of basic amenities, employment opportunity etc. which compelled them to migrate to urban or semi urban places, the Speaker exuded hope that KVIC can play a major role in providing much needed employment opportunities to them. He urged the commission to focus more in rural areas saying there is no dearth of talent and skills among people in villages.
While expressing happiness over participants, mostly youths turning up in good numbers, the Speaker said, it is a positive sign that youths are willing to work. He said people think that employment means only government job whereas it can be in any form.
He urged all the beneficiaries to make optimum use of the machine for enhancing their economy and not to let it rot in a corner.
MLA Ojing Tasing also lauded the KVIC and requested them to explore more avenues in rural areas and help locals use their skills to earn livelihood. Village industries can empower the local youths and women SHGs and create employment at their doorsteps.
Earlier, KVIC (NEZ) Member Duyu Tamo highlighted the KVIC and its schemes. He informed that the Commission aims to boost the local Agarbatti industry which is a key employment generator in many parts of the country. He informed that KVIC also supports turning wood craft, Agarbatti making and agro and food-based industries like pickle making etc.
