PASIGHAT, Mar 19:  The Adi Students Union (AdiSU) has sternly reacted to one of the demand of the Galo Students Union (GSU) seeking non-exclusion of any area under Nari-Koyu Assembly Segment from Lower Siang District and has said that it will not allow any Adi land and its villages to be merged with Lower Siang District.

In a statement issued Saturday, Kaling Eko, Secretary Finance, AdiSU cum Chairman, Lower Siang land issue said that, since beginning the union has not objected for creation of Lower Siang District bifurcating East Siang District. However, we can’t allow even a single inch of our Adi land and its villages merged with the new district, sentiments of which has already been cleared to the state government through representations and democratic movements like dharnas/strikes organized at Assembly gate, mass rally here at Pasighat and through series of bandhs, he said.

AdiSU has further alleged that an attempt is being made by some organizations to compel the state government to notify the territorial jurisdiction of Lower Siang district contrary to the Dharmendra Sharma-led High Power Committee recommendation. Terming such acts as dubious and an attempt to dilute the confidence of the union, Eko maintained that the AdiSU would take it seriously in case the state government happens to push aside the Dharmendra Sharma led HPC recommendation and include Nari-Koyu Assembly segment into Lower Siang.   In this regard, ABK had conducted a physical verification of the boundary as described in D. Sharma led HPC at Nari-Koyu Assembly segment which has been under East Siang and with Adis since time immemorial and had prepared a map with the help of GPS for interest of both the communities.
