Prelims Fiasco

ITANAGAR, Dec 13: Taking strong exception to the ongoing controversy regarding the recently held Prelims exam conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) while terming it ‘serious’ has also called for proper and thorough investigation into the entire matter.

In this connection, a team led by its President Hawa Bagang and General Secretary Tobom Dai had called on the members of the APPSC on December 5 last and had placed the grievances of the aspirants before the Commission.

Informing this in a press release, the Union said that during the threadbare discussions the Commission had acknowledged certain gross anomalies in the question paper setting. It was also informed to the visiting AAPSU team that an expert committee has been already constituted to look into the various complaints of the aspirants as they are not subject experts with an appeal to the Union to wait until the report of the committee is submitted.

Since the matter is very serious in nature and requires in-depth analysis by subject experts, it was also decided by the AAPSU to wait for the report of the Expert Committee, the release stated.

While allaying commentary in various forums against the Union, AAPSU has appealed to all the students especially the aspirants to have faith in the apex students’ body.

The Union members have been rigorously pursuing the matter from the moment a complaint representation was submitted to the AAPSU by the aggrieved aspirants, it said.

Speaking out on the dilemma facing the Union, GS Dai, disclosed that various groups have been approaching the Union after the prelims debacle.

‘One group has been demanding for immediate re-conduct of exams while one group has been demanding for continuity of exams. While there are also some groups who are demanding partial re-conducting of the exams i.e only for those papers in which major errors were detected,’ Dai said.

The APPSC which has been facing shortages of infrastructure, human resource and other technical staffers etc, has been regularly mired in controversies over the past few years. The Union is of the strong opinion that it is time that the State Government takes serious measures regarding it otherwise there might be similar controversies in the near future.

Further, we would also strongly appeal to the Commission to direct the Expert Committee to submit its report at the earliest so that the yearly exam calendar is not affected, the Union said in its statement.
