ITANAGAR, Dec 21:
At least fifteen kutcha houses were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire that occurred at Upper Niti Vihar here this evening. Cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. At least 4 LPG cylinders exploded adding to the inferno.
Two fire tenders were pressed in to douse the fire which started at around 6 pm and the fire was brought under control after 1 hour of hectic effort.
No loss of life was reported, however, few people sustained minor injuries during the rescue operation.
Property worth Rupees1 crore approximately has been lost in the fire, informed councillor, ward no 8 Donik Tayu told this daily.
DC Capital, magistrate, DMO along with a medical team rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. The District Administration distributed relief materials like blankets, utensils and food items to the fire victims. The DDMO Moromi Sonam informed that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained as of now.
Altogether 70 people have been rendered homeless by the fire and the nearby Bungalow no.9 has been made as a temporary relief camp and the victims are currently housed there.
