ITANAGAR, Mar 29: Minister Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung while ensuring to work on the modalities to declare the state level Kalikho Pul Table Tennis Tournament as a state calendar event has also reiterated that youth have potential in every sports activity and Arunachal Pradesh will soon become sports hub of India.
Natung, who kicked off the 3rd state-level Kalikho Pul Table Tennis tournament organized by the Table Tennis Arunachal (TTA) at Dera Natung Government College Auditorium hall here on Wednesday, said that the state government will work on the appeal of the TTA for declaring the tournament as a calendar event. He added that the sports department will soon call on a meeting to discuss the appeal of the TTA.
“Late Kalikho Pul was a people’s  chief minister and we all remember him on this day. Likewise, the present CM Pema Khandu is also ensuring to provide better platforms for sports enthusiasts to excel in life and thereby bring glory for the state,” he said.
The spouse of former CM late Kalikho Pul and also MLA Hayuliang  Dasanglu Pul said that the need of the hour is to divert the minds of the youths from any kind of drug abuse. And, the best way to do so is to engage them in sports activities, she said. Dasanglu said that the tournament is the best way to pay tribute to the former CM  as he was a sports enthusiast and had planned to make the youth prosper in every field.
Meanwhile, Vice President Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) Passang D. Megeji informed that from merely 30 participants during the first state TT championship, the number of participants has risen to more than 100, calling it a positive sign.
He further submitted a three-point memorandum to the Minister, appealing for the declaration of a calendar event, appointment of at least three permanent coaches, and a dedicated indoor stadium.
“More emphasis on Table Tennis will bring more laurels for the state in coming years. Many players have played in national level tournaments since the TT association has been providing a platform to the young players,” he said.
