ITANAGAR, Jan 18:Nine houses were gutted affecting 30 families in a major fire incident at Romi colony here around 2:30 PM today. The cause of the fire is reportedly from a local kitchen in the area.
Deputy Commissioner, Prince Dhawan in presence of SP Capital, S Khalsi and Councillor of Ward 16, Kanyir Gida, distributed 60 blankets and as much mattresses as immediate relief. Further packed dinner was also provided by the District Administration. Nearby Government primary school has been identified as temporary relief camp for the victims.
The Deputy Commissioner while expressing grief over the incident reiterated the need to pay caution to activities involving fire. He added that proper fire safety mechanisms must be adopted including proper electrical wiring and dousing off fire after use in local kitchens to avoid such mishap.
When contacted SDPO, Itanagar Dekio Gumja admitted narrow passage for fire tender to reach the area led to huge damage. However no loss of innocent lives was reported, he informed.
Local MLA Techi Kaso who rushed to the spot contributed three lakh as immediate relief to the victims.
